Vascular surgery
Vascular surgeons treat conditions and diseases affecting the body's vascular system, including the blood vessels, arteries and veins. Maintaining vascular health is critical for continued proper blood flow to the heart and the rest of the body.

Types of vascular surgery
Although some vascular issues require surgical procedures, several others can be managed with medications and lifestyle changes. But, sometimes, surgery is needed, especially if your disease has progressed and puts you at risk for other conditions. When this is the case, we can often use minimally invasive methods to treat a number of vascular conditions. These procedures are routinely performed on an outpatient basis, helping to provide timelier and more advanced options than traditional operations.
Peripheral vascular disease procedure
Peripheral vascular disease (PVD) is a condition where arteries become narrow or blocked, reducing blood flow to your arms or legs. Our vascular surgeons specialize in several procedures to help treat PVD.
Atherectomy
Atherectomy is a surgical procedure that can be performed with minimally invasive techniques. It allows us to use a tiny tool to remove plaque from the affected blood vessel. We offer multiple versions of atherectomy, including:
- Mechanical atherectomy – A procedure where plaque is shaved or cut out.
- Rotational atherectomy – A tiny revolving instrument gently breaks apart the blockage into minute pieces that can pass safely through the vein.
- Peripheral laser atherectomy – A newer procedure involving the insertion of a catheter that emits a high-energy light, or laser, to vaporize blockages in the artery.
Tortuous vein treatment
Tortuous veins, or those that aren't straight, may be treated using ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy. During this type of treatment, an ultrasound is used to accurately position a needle into the diseased vein. Sclerosant foam is injected thereafter, causing the vein to close in on itself and ultimately be reabsorbed by your body.
Venous insufficiency surgery
Our teams treat venous insufficiency of the superficial leg veins by accessing each vein with a catheter, which uses radiofrequency to heat the tip. An ultrasound is used to position the catheter in the diseased vein — and once it's been positioned and activated — the heat causes the vein to close in on itself. As a result, blood can no longer flow or pool in this closed vein and it's automatically rerouted to your healthy veins.

- Carotid endarterectomy (CEA), carotid artery stenting and transcervical carotid stenting
